D and G strings sound louder than others!!

Post by Braineater »

Hello, I've a problem with my '81 4001.
D and G strings sound higher than A and E.
Can I adjust the distance of the pick ups on strings?
The strings are roto 1 year old.
Thank you.

You can raise the bass side of both pickups. You can also lower the bridge a bit on the bass side.

However, the 1st thing you should do is change those year old strings! With a fresh set, you may not have to adjust anything.

I have strings that are almost 4 1/2 years old on my 4005WB, they still sound fine. Don't you just love flatwounds? 8)

When Roundwounds get 4 1/2 years old they sort of sound like flats ...

I have several bass these days so some don't get played that much ... so the strings can last a lot longer.

It could also be the EQ settings on your amp, or the characteristics of the speakers you are using (you can EQ it though).

Thank you for the answers.
I use to keep the amp eq in flat, sometimes I need to adjust a little more.
I have changed the strings with new rotos but the problem there isn't vanished.
As blueflamerick said, I have to adjust the height and proclivity of the pick ups?
I never heard this operation on a rick...
Thank you!

I used to have the E string sound louder, so I backed down on the bass control and turned up the low mids.

If the D and G are louder you might want to back down on the high mids and the treble.
