question about Ricks and Ampegs
I am looking at getting an Ampeg SVT 140 TC 4x10 combo. I really like ampegs. does anyone know if they have a good sound with a Rickenbacker?

Yep. Our bass player went from a MIM Jazz Bass through a Peavey, to a new JG 4003 through an SVT450H with 1-15" and a 2-10" cabs.
Now he gets to eat at the grown-ups' table.
Before everybody jumps on me about "ultimate" rigs, remember: we're a surf band.

Hey Paul...George really resembles Joe Satriani in that pic...
Re: question about Ricks and Ampegs
I've had an SVT (years ago), B2, B200R. Ampeg makes some nice amps, the jury is still out on the new stuff though.
Im really into my Sansamp RPM rig for now.

...which happens to be the drummer's surname...
...which, all in all, leads nowhere.

Steve: A great photo. Your Friendly Ampeg. "Look up. Look way up."
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: question about Ricks and Ampegs
my set-up is similar to Joseph's, a 2x10 + 1x 15 w/ an Ampeg V9 head...sounds incredible.

I use a hiwatt DR200 live, but in the studio nothing matches the ampeg portaflex. I've been lucky to use it on two different sessions, it's just amazing. The tube SVT's are also brilliant, especially the old ones, but the hiwatt is THE sound for me.

Someday I'll have that vintage B-18-N that I've wanted since '66 or so...not that my playing deserves one!thisismusicinc wrote:I use a hiwatt DR200 live, but in the studio nothing matches the ampeg portaflex. Re: question about Ricks and Ampegs
Great choice, Paul! I had one that was cleaner than that (nearly dead mint) that I'd bought from the original owner for a scant $120 about 20 years ago. Man, what a killer sounding amp; one of the few I ever regret parting with.
