Checked out a 650 Dakota today

Post by ric330 »

One of my friends is a Guitar dealer and had a 2005 Dakota come in and I figured I give it a try.
Not really in the market to buy a Dakota at this time, because I'm waiting for my 360 AFG to come in,
BUT I really wanted to try one out. The first thing I noticed is that the Neck is very different from my 360.
A bit wider and chunkier - not much but noticable. This is probably a great finger style monster. Lead work is a
breeze because the frets are a tad larger than my 360. It was equipped with Humbuckers and they are really cool but
sound different than the HiGains. It is a smaller guitar for sure and would be great for anyone especially someone who found
the 330 or 360 to be a bit on the large size.

Over all I really liked it and anyone who may be interested in this type of guitar - you may want to check out this piece here:

just scroll down the guitars and there are additional pictures.
He also has a Nice 330 FG for sale. He's a great guy to deal with and always carrys some fine used instruments

I have one. They foot the bill quite sublimely. Spends a good amount of time in my classroom. I dig playing it and the kids dig hearing it. Here's a brief slideshow of mine. Regards....Goofyfoot.

I have a Sierra - The same as the Dakota, but with gold hardware. It is my main 'go to' guitar - It simply rocks!

If the planets align properly, I should have one of these beauties in my posession in a week or so. I've been wanting one ever since the first time I got a chance to play one, and foolishy did not buy it immediately. I'm not making that mistake again.

Thanks, Kevin. What a gorgeous looking guitar. I appreciate your review. I played one of these while on vacation in Quebec quite a few years ago now and I must say I was suitably impressed. I would be tempted to try high gains in the 650 too.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

That slide show is freaky. I don't think I've even looked at my own 330 that close up from so many angles.

High gains do nicely in the 650 series.

Yeah Nat is a great Guy.
I've done a bit of Guitar work for him and sold a few too over the years.
He has some really cool true vintage pieces from time to time for sale.
