Just picked up my new JG 4003 and I need some help
I just paid off the layaway that I did on a 4003 at the end of last year, making the jump from all guitars to bass as well. I got it for last year's price too which is awesome.
Now, for a question on this: how can I up the output on the neck pickup? I've tried to raise the pickup, but I think it's maxed out and I don't want to crack the pickguard. I've also adjusted the pole pieces somewhat. The thing is that there is a big difference between the output of the neck and bridge pickups and I really want some more out of the one. Any advice would be welcomed.

Maybe lower the bridge pickup to balance it???

What Tom said..... What's happening is the screw heads that hold the pickup together are hitting the bottom of the pickguard. Someone here once suggested removing the tiny nuts and bolts holding the pickup to the mounting plate and use wire to refasten it. I forget who it was though. That will get you close to an 1/8" more. There is a grommet between the pickup and the pickguard. Sometimes the grommet can be split in half to gain more adjusment but there's not much you can do with those screws there. Another thing you could do is lower the action some. All these things may help a little but not much adjustment can be had otherwise. You really need to take off the pickguard and examine it so you can see what's going on with it.

I am pretty sure it was Paul Yan who first suggested that. Maybe.ben_brown wrote:Someone here once suggested removing the tiny nuts and bolts holding the pickup to the mounting plate and use wire to refasten it. I forget who it was though.

My strings are low, so upping the neck pup more than is allowed by screw/nut grommet setup, would be getting close to contact between the strings and pickup. The bridge pickup has alot of room for travel up and down. Just set both volumes up all the way and lower the bridge pup until the volume levels for both pups are about the same.

That's what I've done. It worked out great. Thanks for the help all.ram wrote:My strings are low, so upping the neck pup more than is allowed by screw/nut grommet setup, would be getting close to contact between the strings and pickup.
