Puff Daddy made millions by talking over old Police tracks. George Michael had hits that sounded like canned music one would hear in TV commercials. And they will be in one day if they aren't already.phlemmy wrote:Madonna is a genius and an incredible business woman. She has just as much right to be there as anyone else.
But to put her in among the likes of people who polished their craft for years in clubs, and worked like hell to create and hold together bands of real musicians is sad.

Re: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
My issue with the hall of fame is that it credits popularity and not music skill or merit.
Rush is not in the hall of fame either, but even a non-fan can appreciate the fact that they have crazy control over their respective instruments.

I agree, Rush deserves major recognition for their contribution. They are a great band. Very innovative and top notch musicians.

Question for anyone who has ever visited the RARHOF, how many Rickenbackers are on display and are there any "historical" ones of note ? On another thread, a Forumite mentioned that Roger McGuinn's Lightshow model Ric 12 string was once on display there, but apparently no longer. Any other noteworthy Rics there ?

I really respect the Sex Pistols whole attitude towards being inducted, say what you will, but who else has the stones to say what they did and refuse to be a part of it. I'm sure the museum part is cool, but the whole inductee thing is just another B.S. event like the oscars and tonys are IMHO. Madonna, sure, why not, since it's all about money anyways.
Please, no nudes of Bill Gates or Donald Trump.
I agree on the Jam and the Buzzcocks, as well as Stiff Little Fingers, all pioneers in their genre, and 2 out of 3 still play today. But yeah, Madonnas like, you know, like soooo like talented and like.........

I think it's by whoever they have memorabilia and guitars for that they want to display.winston wrote:I have always wondered how they nominate and finally choose who gets to be a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
John Lennon's 325/12 and George Harrison's 425 are on display.8mileshigher wrote:Question for anyone who has ever visited the RARHOF, how many Rickenbackers are on display and are there any "historical" ones of note ?

If there was a Disco Music or Dance Music Hall Of Fame, you wouldn't see bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc, inducted there.captsandwich wrote:So do Bill Gates and Donald Trump belong in the RRHOF?phlemmy wrote:Madonna is a genius and an incredible business woman. Or do they have to release a book full of nude photos first? (where is the 'terrified' smiley?)

Re: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
My reaction when reading (many years ago) that there was going to be a RRHOF was "Yeah, $#*!, you just know someday they'll put Billy Joel in there".
Well, they've done a lot worse than put Billy Joel in there. It would be more appropriate to call it the "Popular Music of the 20th Century Hall Of Fame", cause Madonna and the likes have nothing at all to do with Rock and Roll, no matter what School of Rock you believe in.

Re: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
My reaction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is very similar to the reaction that I have to many of the "Top 100" lists published by Rolling Stone: a lot of garbage. I was really disappointed by the Hall as it seemed to be much more about representing a great deal that was soul-less. It seems like a place like that should be honoring what is great and yet they seem to be dominated by many of the same trends as Rolling Stone, etc. that pay a lot of lip service to the classics and yet still promote whatever is popular at the moment.

Jann Wenner runs the RnRHoF.
