My JangleBox Arrived today
My JangleBox Arrived today
So it only was just over 3 weeks from order date and I finally got it. He told me he was backlogged when I ordered it so no big deal.
I'm going to give it some time tomorrow and I've give you my impressions although most here know what it can do and love it.
I've used a late 70's Dyna Comp for years and loved it and a Boss (which I didn't particularly like) so trying the JangleBox should be interesting.
With a 360 through a BF Deluxe I get very nice tone but love the way a hint of compression sounds.
We'll see....

Well I for one am very interested in hearing about your experience. The other compressor I've heard a few good reviews of is the Keeley.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
I had a Keeley for a week and wasn't crazy about it. It was used and there could have been something wrong with it. I got it for $100 which is a half of what they usually go for.
Should have tried a new one but anyway I sold it and ordered the JangleBox. I'll hook it up tomorrow and post a review.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Well I know some of you are using this for your 12 strings but for me with my style of playing using lots of dynamics, this pedal just isn't for me.
After hours of testing last night and this morning with couple of musician friends - My Guitar through amp sounds better without the JangleBox for my playin' style.
To be honest I think that I am just one of those who doesn't like what a compression does to the way I play and sound I'm after - with my Rick and amp.
To tell you the truth I get the best tone with My 360/6 plugged straight into my BF Deluxe Clone. Great tone Dynamics and drive when pushed. I get a bit of compression anyway because of the EL 84 power tube conversion I did and I put the Celestion Blue in the cab. The Mercury Mag tranny's, tubes ...I don't know but ...I'm thinkin' if it ain't broke don't fix it. I do find a touch of analog delay for some stuff works fine but other than that - The Rick goes straight to the amp.
It seems that anything I plug into looses something that is there with staight Rick into the Deluxe. I had my bass player listen carefully and he agrees that the 360 straight through is the ticket. Drive the amp and use the volume on the guitar for clean to drive -
Great tone no pedals needed. With my Tele is was a different story but with the 360 the magic happens.
I'm getting wonderful ringing tone with I'm picking individual strings when chording without the use of a compressor
and in my setup the JangleBox is only adding noise.
Just isn't working for me. But for others it seems to work great.
JangleBox is being sent back

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
I tried one and thought that it was extremely noisy.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Thanks Ken, I'm glad I'm not alone in this.
I feel like a compressor just isn't needed with the Rick 360/6. It rings so smoothly and evenly without one in my rig.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Jangle Box, Noisey! That's interesting. I got rid of a Boss Compressor for that reason. just not worth the noise, especially with a tube amp. I thought the Jangle Box might be the ticket but maybe not.
Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
I have been finding that compressors are noisy in my rig. My Dyna Comp was a bit noisy - the Boss, Keeley (used), and the Jangle all too noisy for me and just effected my tone the wrong way. Take em' out of the loop and the tone is back - guitar is quiet and the tone is better for my ears - plus much better dynamics. The compressors sort even out the attack even though you can adjust the mix to be more subtle on many units, for my purposes: it's just got to be out of the mix.
I can see where using a 12 string it could really smooth out things but the JangleBox I got - I couldn't use it on anything but the dark setting just to get rid of the noise.
Wierd. I know there are many here that are having great luck with this unit.
I just gave it another try and I have to say My 360/6 (toaster cover HiGains) > Cord > Deluxe Reverb : sounds too good to screw up.
I'm sure it has alot to do with the Rick /Amp combination. They just really seem to click together. I have been really happy since the purchase of the Rick and no matter what I put in the chain it just sounds better with nothing in between. I'm only finding that an analog Delay is the only thing thus far that works in the mix beautifully but here again I put the mix very low - just a hint.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
I'm with you Kevin, I just don't need a compressor to be happy with my sound
Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Janglebox didn't work out for me and I sold it. Too noisy.... just didn't deliver the goods as advertized (IMHO).
Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
They stand by their return policy and taking back my return for refund.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion regarding JangleBox, or if they even like compression to begin with. I agree that if you don't care for compression, you won't want a JangleBox.
However, if you are considering adding a compressor to your sound, keep in mind that, depending on your rig, any compressor can add some noise. Despite what's been said here (and with all due respect), JangleBox has received pretty good marks — for the most part — for being a relatively quiet compressor:

http://www.janglebox.com/janglebox_easton.htm
http://www.janglebox.com/janglebox_agold.htm
What I think is a bit unfair is to say that we “don’t deliver the goods as advertised.” Yes, there are instances where some have been unable to get a sound they were hoping for, but we've never misrepresented the capabilities of JangleBox. The 20 sound clips on our Web site were created exactly as stated. The testimonials from professional musicians were posted exactly as sent to us. No, we can’t meet everyone’s expectations — sound and tone are just too subjective — but our marketing has never been deceptive or overstated.
The only area where we've perhaps been less than forthright is our return and warranty policies, but only because we're now actually much more flexible than the Web site legalese states. Over the past three-and-a-half years we've been able to make greater allowances, as we've been constantly back ordered and have so few returns.
I realize that our product won't be to everyone's liking, but we continue to garner many, many enthusiastic supporters among both pros and amateurs, janglers and non-janglers alike. We must be doing something right — I can't keep JangleBoxes in stock.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
Well stated Steve,
I know as I stated that this unit is working for many others. I think it is just my playing style and the tone I'm after in my rig that any compressor is just not going to work anymore.
And true that all the compressors that I've tried and used - do ad a touch of noise and I'm sorry if it appeared that I was claiming that the Janglebox was alone on this point.
The bottom line is that it just doesn't work in my mix for the sound I'm after. I appreciate the opprtunity to try the unit direct as I couldn't locate one in a store anywhere to try before I bought. Certainly you must be doing something right and filling a need in many players rigs with the Backlog of orders.
Hank,
You should see if you can try one of these for yourself and see if it will work in your rig for your sound.

Re: My JangleBox Arrived today
I like mine in the studio, and live I use it like a stompbox for 6 string solos.
