1,000,000th time... How long to wait?

Post by jdogric12 »

Hey everybody. Sorry for asking this for the millionth time but I just got a guitar in with a new refin in a RIC case, in a box, shipped Thursday as UPS 3 day air from Northern CA. It arrived a few minutes ago. The box doesn't really feel warm or cold. I wormed my little finger into the corner and it doesn't feel cold inside either. I tracked the package as it stopped in Texas on the way (as opposed to a colder hub like Chicago, etc). So... age old question, how long should I wait?

In this case it might be okay to open after a few hours. What was the temp about at the time of delivery? Maybe wait until dinner time?
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

If the guitar is not cold to the touch, it's okay, isn't it?

I think it's best to wait a week, possibly two.

I would leave it until late April or early May myself, just to be on the safe side.

...a '66 360/12 that he JUST paid to have refinished and would likely prefer to have seen at least one time without finish cracks in it.

Sarcastic answer: Wait two or three years. That's how long everyone else is waiting for their RIC.

Legal answer: It says on the carton how long to wait.

Real answer: Jeff is correct. It doesn't matter.

(Hhhmm, I wonder if I can get Myth Busters to take this on . . . )

I'm sorry, but I simply do not understand the logic here. The guitar was shipped to Jason from the refinisher. Why would you risk thermal shock having just paid to have the guitar restored and refinished?!

That IS a great idea for Mythbusters. I love that show. One of few I try to catch when I'm home and it's on.

This would make an interesting thread... let's hear from someone who HAS opened a case to quick and watched it crack...
