Meet the Smithereens

Post by brianeharmonjr »

I don't know if this has been discussed here yet, but I just picked up this album by the Smithereens. It's all Beatles covers, and they're all great. Very close to the originals. I highly recommend it.

I agree.... very very excellent reproduction of original Beatle songs. These guys deserve a lot of kudos.

However, are they TOO good? Given a choice of listening to Smithereens or the original tracks, I'll take the The Beatles any ole time.

I'm with you, Brammy. Nice for a change but nothing beats the originals. Welcome back, BTW!

Not having heard of the Smithereens down here, and after being introduced to their music a few years back by Trotty.......i'm a huge fan!
Yes i prefer the original to the Smithereens version, but, hey.....if it introduces a new generation to the Beatles, its a good thing, right? And it if it also revives interest in Pat and the Smithereens.....even better, they are one terrific band!
I have a copy of "Meet the Smithereens"........it's great!

Anything to add, Darren????

IMHO, I think the Smithereens play the parts and arrangements pretty much dead-on right compared to the originals, but it still sounds like the Smithereens. And that's cool in my book. On both counts.
