350 SH for $3,900? yikes

Post by jwargowski »

I love these guitars, but 4 grand? yowch. Not that e-bay is always a true indication of market prices, but thats a lot of bones, even for a limited edition Rick. Maybe I'm just frustrated that they seem to be climbing beyond the amount I'm willing to shell out. We may all soon be relegated to playing $1000 Strats, or $600 modeling guitars to get the sounds we want. (which seem to do a ****** job of modeling Ricks, but a good job with Strats, Tele's and Les Pauls)

A 350V63 will cost you just over half that for essentially the same guitar (from a utilitarian viewpoint of course).
I confess to having a TP, but it cost less than list of a 660/12, so I don't feel like a total schmuck, which I am, of course....

The Hoffs has been in that range for a while now.

One recently sold for over $5000. They have been up and down but in the $4000 region for a number of years now.

The 350SH was the first Rickenbacker I purchased.

No bark, he just nods, sagely.

Nice investment (and nice guitar) Brett. They are definitely loved by collectors. The SH ranks with the CS, RM and CW in terms of demand. Whilst I understand the dynamics of the this market, my values are too utilitarian to get involved.

Don't worry, this one certainly pays it's dues. It is loved not only for it's aesthetics but its playability and tone as well.

I am of the belief that an instrument needs to be played. An instrument unplayed is, in my eyes, a tragedy. To deny ones sole reason for existence.... sorry, got a bit carried away there.

Really, each to their own. I think the important thing is that people find enjoyment in their instruments. The driver for that enjoyment is all relative.

Hey Brett, I've been looking forward to the day you catch up with us Aussie forumites, and the chance to see your SH350. It seems that when you do get down here, there will be 2 SH350's present, as ( see thread elsewhere) Darren Trott has just purchased one for his wife, Robyn!
A really gorgeous guitar! I believ Aitch is still seriously after one as well!

Greg, yeah I saw the thread. He is certainly a sneaky one that Mr Trott. It was a lovely present too and a great story.

I am keen to catch up some time soon. I've added a couple of guitars this year as well so I have a few other rare ones to show you guys.

Strangely enough, after they came out they used to be one of the cheapest used Rickenbackers, supposedly because guitarists didn't particularly want to be associated with her, at that time anyways.
