I put in 2 new mono jacks wired up to where the one mono jack is currently wired ...

I rip that stereo stuff out of every 4001/4003 that I get my hands on ...

2 mono outputs are cool ... you can go to 2 amps, or have a backup jack, or run to outs in a studio, or run one with effects and one clean ... etc ...

Jeff,

How exactly did you wire it in double mono? Two separate feeds or just wires coming off one jack and going to the other? Or something I haven't thought about...

I wire it up one jack mono ... and then run two wires to the second jack from the first ... the way you described it will work and may be better ... Actually all six of my Rics have just one mono out put these days ... my '68 came without stereo, all 3 of my 4003s5 models came without stereo, and my 4004L and 2030 came with one mono output ... I have owned 3 4001/4003 basses that I converted to 2 mono jacks ... Steve Cooper has one of them

You're a man, if not THE man Jeff! That is both a "thanks" and a compliment. Cherish this as I slave over a hot soldering iron...
