Across The Universe - DVD Movie
Across The Universe - DVD Movie
I just watched Across The Universe and I really enjoyed it. The young actors I thought did a great job with this film. Many of them sang so many of those great Beatles songs we just can't seem to get enough of. Check it out if you haven't already.

I rented this "film" last Tuesday and made it through about 10 minutes before ejecting. The worst POS since Sgt Peppers LHCB (the movie). Don't waste your time on this garbage. I think the "Revolution" Nike ad had more artistic integrity. Sorry folks, but this just plain sucks...

Wow that was harsh.
It is a Musical type movie and goes through alot of Beatle music with a story. Not for everyone so it seems.
It is quite creative throughout but if you don't like a musical type film - to each his own.

NO offense but I think the above poster had his mind made up before he even started watching it. you can't make up anything in the first 10 minutes of any movie, especially this one, it's a freaking musical for god sakes!
I enjoyed it, so there. hahaha

Sorry if I was overly harsh. I was actually looking forward to this movie but was REALLY let down. Perhaps I thought it would be more along the lines of Bjork's "Dancer In The Dark" which was definately a musical - but also an interesting film. If you like "Across The Universe", then enjoy...
Re: Across The Universe - DVD Movie
I loved the acapella "Girl" at the beginning, but stopped watching during the "With A Little Help From My Friends" scene. It just killed me. Perhaps, I'll finish it at a later date. Nothing to do with the Beatle songs, as I am a huge fan, which is why I'm on this forum, but the movie was bad up to this point...
Re: Across The Universe - DVD Movie
No point watching it for me. I knew it was gonna be awful when I saw the trailer. I just don't think anyone can cover the Beatles. At least not well. And since this movie is filled with cover songs it'd just be hell for me to watch and listen to.

Well, I just finished watching, and I'm a bit surprised. I was sure I would hate it, but I didn't. There were certainly parts of it I didn't care for, specifically any dancey-type parts, and when the main chick (Lucy) sang, but most of it I liked. It's a very interesting idea, using Beatles songs to tell a story, and many of the songs weren't bad. Being a guitar player, I noticed much lacking in the guitar parts, but this is understandable, seeing as the main focus were the lyrics. It was actually an interesting story, and the songs worked in the story much better than most musicals I've seen. Overall, I'd give it maybe a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Not too bad, and I'd say worth a watch for a Beatles fan, or a non-Beatles fan. I've got a couple of friends who aren't big Beatles fans that really dug the music. So, I think I'll make them some mix CDs with the actual Beatles songs, and maybe some new Beatles fans will be born. If nothing else, its good for that.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie in which I liked and disliked all at the same time.
I think there were scenes of the movie that were absolutely brilliant and visually stunning....but then at the same time there were parts that slowed the movie to a halt. It was just a 'choppy' movie if that makes any sense. I think it was a great show of creativity but I don't think as a film it achieved what it set out to do.
