Confused Regarding COY BlueBurst 2006?

Post by Mickey Rickey »

I was wondering why my serial # at the Rick home page says my 360 Blueburst was made in week 12 of the year 2006.
I thought it was the color of the year for 2005 and only 2005. Does anyone know about this? I appreciate any and all
responces as I am perplexed. The guitar was bought new from a Rick dealer.

Likely the guitar was ordered by the dealer in '05, but the production wasn't completed until the following year. This happens frequently.

I have a Burgandyglo (2002 COY) 650C with a 2005 serial number. I ordered a Blueburst 5002v58 that will hopefully have a 2008 or 2009 serial number.

Strange to think that RIC has to keep spraying COYs for many years afterwards! I have a MB 360/12 that was made a few years after MB was discontinued.

PM Blues has 4 Blueburst 660/12's in stock. All of those may be 2008's.

What's so strange about it? RIC takes the orders and fills the orders, as promised. COY doesn't mean finished that year. It's not when it's made, but is it what was ordered? The 2009 new cars roll off the assembly line this Fall...in 2008. Sort of Rick in reverse.

I'd been wondering this too, if they use the actual year, or backdate them. Here's a question that probably doesn't have an answer, but here it goes: Does a COY made outside of the year that color was designated for have a higher or lower value than a COY made in it's year of production, or does the price remain the same?
Thanks!

1. For warranty purposes, they are dated as they leave the assemble area.
2. I don't think that has ever been an issue for anyone - yet.

I assumed as much, but I thought it was worth asking. Another probably dumb question, but do the COY come with a certificate or tag or label or anything that designates them as a COY. I mean, say somebody buys a Blue Boy and then goes to sell it, but can't get any price differential because the store he's selling it to doesn't know anything about Rics and thinks it's a re-fin or something. Is there any way to prove that it's a COY instead of something else?
Thanks!

Nope. I wouldn't sell or trade it under those conditions.

I wouldn't sell to somebody in that situation either, but I was just curious as to whether it came with any documentation to state that it was a COY finish.
Thanks!

Stan - Not so weird that RIC is still filling the orders, just to imagine somebody there still spraying BBR in 2008-9...three or four years after the color was discontinued.

Color of the year is simply the year it's available to order.
Now with a 18month to 26 month wait, it's no wonder that
a guitar ordered in '05 would not be built until it's place in que
comes up.

2008 hopefully for my 4003 BBR.
