Once again, I'm coming out of lurking mode and posting a plea for help in the form of a moderator of the byrdmaniax list.
What does a moderator do? Basically, keep an eye on the newsgroup and make sure it doesn't degenerate into flame wars, political diatribes, religious ranting, etc.
As recent posts indicate, sometimes folks need to be reminded this a forum about the Byrds (there - that's my own political rant).
The moderator also has to be vigilant to keep out spam. At least once a week some pornographer signs up and tries to send half-a-dozen obscene messages through the list.
Here's the kicker: I need help immediately. My job is taking increasingly more time, and my wife and I are expecting our first child in a few weeks. I'm not going to have time to devote to the list (I already get behind in checking/then allowing new member posts).
This is not a short-term obligation.
I will need a couple of volunteers by Feb. 1. After that time I will be unable to supervise the group any more. I expect at that point I will open the list up to the public (if no volunteers come forward), and doing that means absolutely no reining in of off-topic posts, no limits on religious and political ranting and no limits on spam.
Thanks,
Richard
