That must be the "heavy metal" (stud) version!

A refin in a solid color (JG again?) and all those holes could be filled.

It's amazing to me that someone could basically deface and depreciate the value of an iconic instrument in the pursuit of what is or was their personal taste.

The overall result in my mind of course, is hideous and totally wrong. Especially when viewed from a players standpoint. :(

Sometimes you have to alter an instrument to make it" your own". If this worked for the owner then so be it .....but......it would be nice to retain the parts to return it back to original.

Given that, I think I will offer Macca only $1000.00 for his 4001S. I can't imagine it being worth much more than that with all the defacing he did over the years!   8) 8) 8) :!: :!: :!:

Someone probably did this in the early 70's when there was NO vintage value. They probably thought it was the bees knees back then. Maybe it will go cheap.......maybe not.

The upside would be that it's a great one to restore if it doesn't get too pricey.

I've seen 60s P basses with horns sawed off - this isn't quite THAT bad.

This is one for the Curmudgeon The purchaser might just as well have it shipped directly to Paul.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Wasn't this one on craigslist a while back? Hopefully this will provide cheap entry to the '72 club -- I'd be in there if I had the means (er, and if it stays cheap). Someone else got a heck of a deal on a '73 with a leather diaper (that was a lot less pokey) around that time too, I think -- Jeffrey Scott, maybe?
