The Viscounts' version is one of my all-time favorites. It's up there with Rumble for me in a lot of ways.

The Viscounts are cool. Danny Gatton Just slays me! Nothing like my personal playing style, I'm not really stealing any licks from this cut, I just enjoy listening to it. :)

HA! That's my buddy Dave Elliott on drums in the Gatton clip. Dave played with Danny for 18 years off and on. I'll be working with Dave next Friday night actually. The rest of the group in this clip is the late Billy Windsor on rhythm guitar and John Prevetti on URB. Such a great band, then again, Danny always had great bands. "Harlem Nocturne" was a staple in his sets and I had the fortune to have seen him play it on more than a few occasions. Always jaw dropping.

The thing with Gatton was that his mind was always a step ahead in what he wanted to play, just whirling with musical ideas. These clips really don't do him justice as seeing it and hearing it as it was being created was one of the most phenominal things you'd ever be likely to witness. He's very missed here and his old friends think and speak of him often. Thanks for the vid, George!
