Full width inlays on new basses?

If this turns out to be a new standard feature on Rickenbacker guitars, do you think there's any chance we'll see it offered on basses?

I hope so!
Thanks for clue-ing in us bass people to the recent developments, Steve! I had no idea this was going on.

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
As I said in the other thread, I wasn't interested in buying any new Rickenbackers but full-width inlays would change that immediately for me! For guitars as well as basses.
Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
A hurdle to seeing this feature turn up on basses is that unlike guitars, RIC hasn't produced a bass with full width inlays since 1973. This would require new programming for the CNC machines - in light of their efforts to reduce the backlog, I don't know how much time they would have for projects like this.

Yeah, but it might take less time to reprogram the CNC machine to cut full witdth inlays than to read all of the postings by us lamenting the lack of full width inlays on 4000 series basses86kubicki wrote:A hurdle to seeing this feature turn up on basses is that unlike guitars, RIC hasn't produced a bass with full width inlays since 1973. It would be nice...
Such is the interest and demand, especially seeing the retro work done by Paul/Dale, you would think that RIC would offer their own version eventually.

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
I won't be able to participate in the new fun. I ordered the model without inlays!!
At least it has charactered maple, though.

Looking at that 360 with full-width inlays is giving me R.A.S. for the guitar I shipped off to Dale for some work!wints wrote:It would be nice...

I only have a cursory understanding of CNC programming but it does not seem like it would take more than changing a few lines of code to get it done.
Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Full width inlays would save a step when sending it to Paul or Dale to have the sparklies put in!
(ducks)....
(based on the current JG 360 full-width threads....)

Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Spotted (I think) one in the UK. Small pic, but looks full width and bright white.
Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
Here's a 2008 4003 currently on Gbase. Its a small pic, but the inlay material appears to be the bright mother of pearl type material we've seen on the 360s. If it is the new material, it looks like basses aren't getting the full width treatment... unless this is a transitional feature.
Re: Full width inlays on new basses?
False alarm.
I just phoned the shop. The material is brighter, but doesn't go all the way across.
