TI Flats on a 4003FL...

Post by qwezirider »

...I think I just soiled myself! Gads, I never thought I would like a set of flats. I've been a lifelong roundwound user. Ahhhhhh..............these are sweet.

Not a huge TI fan, but always nice to see a flatwounds convert. :)

Me too - I have TI flats on my fretless... (but it's a Fender :) ) Great strings for fretless. At first they felt slack but after a while I began to like it.

They do require a lighter touch, but that is a good thing really. It provides you with a wider dynamic range to utilize and gives a fatter tone.

Well, the 4003FL Gary so kindly offered me a while back and these flats are going to venture out in public for our first time tonight. Should be a hoot. You think I know what I'm doing on fretless???? HA! Fortunately, it's Johnny Cash music, so if I get lost, it should be fairly simple to get back to E.

I'm actually thinking of converting my EB-3 (longscale, not short) to flatwounds, I think they'd offer a great tone, but I'd need a real bass amp first anyhow!

Anyone tried Roto TruBass black nylon strings on a fretless? I have them on two fretted basses and love the sound.

I like the sound of TI flats, but prefer Chromes for feel, and the tone of the Chromes is close enough for me...
ymmv!
