Contrary to popular belief around here  there is no such thing as overpaying. It was obviously worth that price to you and that's all that matters. Good on you!

For more data points, I sold my June '73 MG for $3500 a few weeks ago, and dropped $3k on my far more beat up '72, which had several replacement parts. I've spent around 600 getting wavy grovers, a split tailpiece that needs work, and a horseshoe -- not period correct, but couldn't resist. I still need a pre-73 bridge and a bridge pickup surround, and it'll definitely need a refin down the road. I'll make a little of that back when I sell the repro tuners, tailpiece/bridge, and bridge pickup, but all the trim on your new bass is in far superior condition.

Yeah Marc, you got a complete one. No chasing around the globe for parts. And I'm guessing that the front of the body could be re-finned without doing the whole bass if you wanted that.

Nice one Marc. Are you sure that pup cover is original? I thought in that era they were all low profile covers.

When I first saw that bass, I thought - hmmmm - there's my future azureglow bass - refin that *******. The back is so clean, I suspected that it may be wholly refinned and they wanted to amber the checkerboard binding and they did, ummmmm, whatever they did.
NICE SNAG!

That would make a nice Azure, wouldn't it! Maybe even a 'Burg.

I don't think the bass is refinned. It's also not the first bass I've seen like that. Maybe it doesn't look as bad in person. We'll see. I did have a strange idea...go for a DG top and make it the only Gold Top Ric bass. :D

Low profile cover Steve? The cover was put above the springs rather than below. Also something we've seen before. Since I will be away all of next week, I probably won't be able to report until next weekend at the earliest.

That dark ring around the bass is probably caused by sweat soaking into the wood after the finish separated between the binding and the body. If that's what it turns out to be, I'd see if I could get just the front refinished.

Congrats, Marc! I think this is the only Rickenbacker ever finished in Antiguaglo!

That's one sweaty dude/chick to cause that type of damage all the way around the bass.

I guess we'll all know soon enough. In my dream - it was a refin so it could become Azureglo.

They're pretty tight about their catalog, but you can see right through it.
