Notice anything different about this 360?...

Post by bosco64 »

After work today, I head out to Classic Axe in Gainesville, VA where my wife Cindy is the store manager. I knew that they were supposed to be getting a new 360 Jetglo in any day now, and it came early this morning. After she unpacks it a couple of hours later and hangs the guitar up, she gives me a call and tells me that there's something different about the guitar that she just couldn't describe, and asked me to take a look at it when I came in later. Whell, I finally get there, I go climb the ladder to take a closer look, and this is what I saw: (click onthe image to enlarge it)

OMG!!!!!! FULL LENGTH INLAYS!!!!!! ON A 2008 JETGLO!!!!!!

I almost fell off the ladder when I saw that. If this is what RIC is doing with the 360's, the 620's, and (gulp) the 4003's, then I say bravo. If this a one-off, then I say bravo too. If anyone is curious, you can call the store at 703-753-1774. Russ (the owner) will be there tonight, but Cindy will be there tomorrow from 10-7. Un-freaking-believable!!!

Check out this thread:

I've got a feeling those inlays are gonna make a big splash around here.

Thanks Wes, I didn't see that thread. Word gets out around here pretty fast!

The funny thing is that they're two different guitars, meaning that there's probably more. Too bad this didn't come around sooner, an AFG 360 with yellowed full inlays would have probably been pretty neat.

Well, there are still AFG 360's shipping, i'm sure. We may just get to see one!

We've now seen three 360JG's today with f/w inlays.

Ron - can you describe the material used in the inlays?

Sure Steve, they were very bright looking, very similar to the enlarged picture you posted in the For Sale thread. Compared to the other 360 and the 620/12 in the store, there's just no comparison. If a 4003 pops up with those inlays, I might have to dip into the 401K...

Ron - did the inlays appear to be made from a solid piece of material or were they a composite material like the old crushed pearl inlays?

Steve,

The inlays didn't look crushed and sparkly like this:

They looked solid and very bright. They really stood out.

Hmm, I'm getting a brand new 360JG from MF on Tuesday. Is mine going to have this feature ? I would think so, as Ric generally doesn't make different versions of the same model.

Yeah but Rick does make small runs of things. Was your 360 in stock or have you been waiting for it for a while?

But sometimes existing stock isn't immediately used. Some time after re-introducing walnut wings on bass headstocks, we started seeing some new headstocks showing up without walnut wings. That being said I hope your 360 shows up with the wide inlays!

If anyone recalls the thread about the inlays that was going on here about a month back, Mr. Hall popped in and said something cryptic to the effect of "the talk about replacing old inlays with new sparkle ones will be pointless shortly"...I guess we may now know why.

Above is the original thread. If this is where things are going this is great. A very welcome change.
