This would be a great bass...

Any one of those bass guitars is a prime example of what happens when you run out of ideas. Or, to put it another way, they embody the "Anything Goes" philosophy to a T. I think I'll pass.

Vintage is one thing, modern another. Either can be beautiful/attractive or ugly/strange/alien/foreign/disquieting.
I'm not sure beauty, or at least "pleasing to the eye" is something I want to "get over"...
You do have something there, though, and so does this guy...I find myself looking at the front and back of the bass you're referring to (which I've come to call the "snail" bass), Nate, and smiling. It does grow on me. The others, though, fall short, at least for me. And I always have a problem with solid body instruments with top veneer that has body wood showing around it. Just looks unfinished to me.

I dunno,,,,,I think they kick serious ***. I'm all for the "one off" design. You gotta admire the guys skill.

I think the band/situation comes to play here.
Bar band, no way, I'll play my Dean or my put-together Jazz, maybe a Rick, depending on the bar.
If I was backing someone on the Grammy awards yes.
But then again, who knows how it plays or sounds. It might sound great or it might sound like ***.

Although I'm not sure how many different tones you could get out of that 13 bolt neck thing. How many frets does it have anyway?????

Anything is better than another Fender copy IMHO.

I don't think it is as much about running out of ideas as it trying some new ones. Jeez, the vast majority of the guitar designs out there are 4 decades or more old. There is certainly nothing wrong with challenging the old guard. The early designers had some good ideas but certainly not ALL of them.rickcrazy wrote:Any one of those bass guitars is a prime example of what happens when you run out of ideas. Yeah but they don't have to look like they belong in a Roger Rabbit movie, either.nattiep wrote:Not everything has to look vintage nowadays guys, get over it.

"....sound like ***.........." Hey Scott, you mean, it COULD have DEEP, RUMBLING LOWS?
I must be getting old, but I've never heard "sound like ***" before! I spit my coffee all over my monitor! I LOVE IT!
Re: This would be a great bass...
I've spoken to someone who has one and he's convinced it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've never had chance to play one but I'd certainly like to. Jens is apparently an amazingly gifted craftsman.

I've just realised who the seller is; he owns my old Sei 6 string headless. Small world! I see he's getting Martin Peteresen (of Sei Bass) to make him another bass....can't go wrong there.

Though not my cup of tea, If I had one, I'd be paranoid of breaking off the tiny "snail antennae" anytime I took it out of the case....
