The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, I believe. They are absolutely fantastic.

In our focus on the fast paced world of electronics, we sometimes forget the marvelous quality of the acoustic instrument especially the voice.

A great moment, Roy. Thanks.

75 years ago, did not realise it was so long ago to be honest, this lad from Lancashire (Pity it wasn't Yorkshire) was a major star in UK.

Ask anyone in UK over 50 to name someone who played a ukulele and this will be the answer.

A few of his risque songs were later recorded by sixties groups notably Herman's Hermits.

Roy: He certainly has an interesting frame of mind with regard to his profession.

I definitely see Peter Noone's work differently now. :)

During the 1920's, the ukulele was "all the rage" or I should say the "cat's meow" in the states along with racoon coats and flappers. This clip is later then that but a classic..the great Roy Smeck "The Wixard Of The Strings"

He sure wrote a lot of instruction books. I remember seeing them all over the place even as late as the '60s.

Re: George Formby:
Jools Holland tells in his autobiography of being at a dinner at George Harrison's house, with, among others, Bob Dylan. After the meal, George H. decides that the only way to round off such a great evening is with a couple of George Formby videos. Apparently they left Dylan totally mystified... :)
I just love this image. Dylan is notoriously eclectic in his musical tastes, but I can well imagine that George Formby was beyond even his comprehension...
