Top five responsible for Rickenbacker sales/popularity

I've been thinking about this for awhile now and would like to give my top five artists that have been responsible for promoting the Rickenbacker name.

1. The Beatles
2. The Who
3. Chris Squire
4. Geddy Lee
5. Tom Petty

Any other opinions???

I'm sure there are many more.


I got into playing bass guitar in 1981 after being exposed to Rush and Yes at the same time.
Of course I wanted a
Rickenbacker 4001.

Cliff Burton. I never would have cared about Rickenbackers had he not played one.

I guess it depends on whether you're a bass player or guitar player. I'm both. I guess this is more personal than overall, but this would be my top 5 for each.

You left out The Byrds.

I see somebody else has listed Roger McGuinn. And but for him, The Beatles notwithstanding, I'd have probably turned a deaf ear to friends' suggestion that I needed an electric guitar. There's just a lot of stuff out there in the way of electric guitar that doesn't make me go "Yeah, I want to play that kind of music." I'm not saying it's all bad, either. Some of it is really very, very good. I just don't see me playing Wes Montgomery covers, for example. But every time I put on The Jayhawks, or Starry Eyed And Laughing, or The Byrds, I think "Yeah, I want to play that."

Ah, yes The Byrds. See, I knew there would be more opinions.
Turn, Turn , Turn. I can hear that twelve string now....


I guess this can be seen as personal taste, but I just would like to know what everyone else here thinks.
I thought it would be an interesting discussion.

I did list The Who and The Beatles as being artists where both the guitarists and bass players used a Rickenbacker at one point or another. Or, smashed one up.

NO WAY did Peter Quaife sell more Rick basses then Geddy Lee!

How the heck did Brian Jones have anything to do with selling Rics?!? I really like his playing and all, but he's responsible for pushing/popularizing Firebirds and Vox Teardrops, if anything...NOT Rics. To be honest, his use of a Ric is as notable as that of the Shadows of Knight or the Syndicate of Sound. Carl Wilson is a much more notable user.
Also, Entwistle dropped playing them in favor of other brands based on the sound and feel that he needed and the technical difficulties that he ran into. And Quaife is not a notable enough player to have been that big with Rics either. He was more into Fender as well, after '65 or so and then he was in and out of the Kinks between '66 and '69 when he dropped out.
