I am inclined to agree with your sentiments Kris. I also like Mountain. Felix Pappalardi and Leslie West were/are top notch musicians. Felix died as a result of being shot by his wife in his Manhattan apartment. But I digress. The fact is they have made a very comprehensive list of one hit wonders that I discovered as I was doing my research on this subject.

I take no particular joy by participating in saying that they were a one hit wonder, to me they were just an incredible band.

I just remembered that this was their second hit, which rules them out. They had a UK number one with "Geno" in 1980. This was a much better song. IMO.

Kris, 5 Man Electrical band are at least a 2 hit operation. They had "Signs" (#3 in the US and #4 in Canada) in 1971 followed later that year with "Absolutely Right" which was top 20 in the US (#4 here in Canada).

Here's one from the fifties. 1958 to be precise. Laurie London: "He's Got The Whole World in His Hands" This was a monster hit with no follow up that charted, as far as I can recall. I was very young obviously.

Yes 58 in States where it made number 1, it only made number 12 in UK in 57 though kid was English.

Calling Mountain a one hit wonder is a bit unfair. Besides Mississippi Queen, they also made it into the charts in the U.S. with both Theme From an Imaginary Western and The Animal Trainer and the Toad. Granted, neither one made it very high in the charts, but they were there. Mountain was also known for other great songs like For Yasgur's Farm and Nantucket Sleighride.

When I think of one hit wonders, it brings to mind bands and singers that only had one song in the charts, and weren't known for any other songs by the general population. Here's some I came up with:

Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Hold Your Head Up - Argent
Hocus Pocus - Focus
Signs - Five Man Electrical Band

I am with you on that one, Kris. Mountain was one of my favorite bands in the early 70s and I thought they had a wealth of good material for the short time they were together.
