to add insult to injury, there is a new part to this story ...

i took my guitar to a nut and bolt specialist in chester near where i
work the other day on the advice of someone in a nearby guitar shop ...
i was looking for the nut to hold the input in place on the jackplate
... i was told this guy would be able to find anything, including what
i am told was "american unf" (which i was told was what was on my
bass?)

after fiddling for a good 20 minutes trying to find a match, the guy
told me that he thought the thread on the input had been damaged
hence he was struggling to match it ... to be honest when i look at
the thing i can see that it looks different part of the way down ...

so i have to replace the inputs? its a stereo bass of course ...

is THIS the kind of thing i am looking for? (3rd item down)

since paul mentioned an "aliphatic resin (AR) glue", will this be ok?
am petrified of buying the wrong stuff!

Hi Danny - I can't offer the same level of sage advice as many of the other members here - but don't freak out, I doubt you'll do your bass any harm! As far as glue's concerned, just avoid using really heavy-duty stuff & the likes of Superglue - remember that nuts can wear & may need to be removed & replaced. I prefer to use a fairly light strength wood glue, & just make sure the faces of the nut & neck/fretboard are perfectly clean & smooth so it's a solid fit with no gaps or movement.

BTW checked out your Myspace & thoroughly enjoyed your band's stuff.

i do need the screws but it seems i can get them from rosetti over here in
the uk ... thanks for the offer!

(does anything think ill have difficulty getting them from rosetti?)

Oh, and the switch...if you remove the guard, you will see that with a bit of judicious bending with a small needle-nosed pliers, the switch tab that is slipping can be bent back into place.
