Little Moments

Post by bear »

I previously posted some pix in "The Others" Forum of an Orange OR120 and its matching 2x15 Reflector cabinet.
The big question asked was how did it sound?

I rarely am party to hearing a finished track let alone a rough mix just to hear what was captured, let alone 2nd take  .
Engineer liked the Rickenbacker / Orange combo track tone so much he gave me a copy of the rough mix.

Here are the tools:
OR120, Reflector Cab, 4001 C64s
OR120, Reflector Cab, 4001 C64s
Current Pedalboard minus the Phil Jones Bass Buddy (in the control room 2nd bass track)
Current Pedalboard minus the Phil Jones Bass Buddy (in the control room 2nd bass track)
The tune may be found here:
http://www.bluejade-band.com

Navigate past the entry screen and head over to page five, the Media selection in the left hand menu, once there it's on the
right hand side under Etc., click on "Little Moments" in red, it is about a 5Mb file IIRC.

This mix has the Orange Slave Out Feed direct to the console Only, No PJB Bass Buddy track layering at all. And I didn't have to ask
because he told me to enjoy the Orange only mix before the artist got to the board.

Cheers,

Nice sound Steve, I can see why the engineer gave you a copy. So if I understand correctly this was exclusively a line out from the amp, no mic on the speakers or blending? If so, does the 2x15 cab faithfully reproduce the same sound?

Correct Tom,

He ran a 1/4" line from the slave output, which would appear to be post EQ, on the OR120 direct to the board, no microphone on the speakers and nothing from the PJB track on this mix.

I would venture an opinion that that Reflector cabinet does do a really faithful job of putting out what you hear on this mix. Only adding in that pounding chest thump and room full of bass waves, plus the Treble bite is handled very smoothly, one could surmise that the Reflector cab does indeed mute the high end somewhat strictly due to the nature of the folded/reflected sound. That said if I had a mulligan on that track I would have cracked the High EQ open a little farther.

Thanks for giving it a listen TOm and glad you enjoyed the tone of the Orange & Rickenbacker. Oh yeah flatwounds and a pick buried between thumb and first finger.

Cheers,

Sorry everyone but like George said "All Things Must Pass".

The website that I was parking this track at is now defunct, that Band has one more gig, tonight, and I turn the page on Blue Jade.

Thanks so much for the listens, comments, questions and PM's regarding technique etc.

Cheers,

Steve

Well, I'm a few days late and a few dollars short, or however the saying goes. Sorry I missed this one. Sounded intriguing. Let us know if you post more sound samples on another site. I know that some folks here use iCompsotions, Soundclick, Garageband & the like. Food for thought.

Hope the gig went well.
