Favorite Version: Hideaway

Post by tennis_nick »

I'm gonna try to force new life into the forum by just talking a lot... so you better listen and answer!!!!

Favorite Version of Hideaway, between these 4 choices.
Freddie King

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Johnny Winter

Clapton - I couldn't find audio on youtube of the Beano version, and I didn't think Clapton did it Justice on the strat. for the sake or argument, I just found a vid of a kid playing it on a Les Paul, I figured that the tone was close enough to compare, personally the tone Clapton uses is enough to distinguish it)

So please, vote, discuss, whatever you gotta do. anything to get the blues moving! explain your choice, or whatever, let's just start talking around here!!!

Clapton. Number One. He embellished the great freddy king version with his perfect execusion and awsome tone. Especially considering it was done in what, 1966? There was nothing like it at the time. That whole album J. Mayhal and the Blues Breakers w/ E.C. still amazes me. Some of Clapton's best work. 8)

I dig Freddie's version from The!!!Beat with Gatemouth Brown of the 4 choices presented. Little known fact is that Freddie made that up pretty much on the fly, according to Bill Willis. Bill was the house bass player at King Records back then and played on all of Freddie's sides that were rcorded there. He currently is the organist with Jimmie Vaughan's Tilt-a-Whirl Band.

I'd go for the Freddie King version, too. SRV's version is interesting.
Did I catch a glimpse of a Rickenbacker 330 in the Freddie King video? Looks to me like the rhythm guitarist was playing a Ric.

I've got to go with Freddy King's version on this one. The warmth of his HB equipped Gibson ES shines above the others.

I like the original, but I bet if there is a late '60s/early '70s version by the man (Freddie, of course) himself, it would sound even better.

OK, here goes.....

I like SRV's groove, but not tone. I thought Freddie's version was a little quick and didn't groove enough. I have a soft spot for Johnny so he's my fave for playing style, and the kid's Paul has the "tone".

So combine 'em all and I like 'em!
