My Shadow is too fat!

My Shadow is too fat!
So I scored a blem vintage case from Musician's Friend to replace the trashed handle-less case my Shadow came in, and had a bit of a surprise: the Shadow is way too fat to fit in the vintage case (from side to side, not front to back, although the top horn is too long also). I hadn't realized it was so much fatter than my '72. So I guess I have to get that Shadow case fixed up now. I think it's the original case, anyway.
Re: My Shadow is too fat!
I just finally polished it up and I'm going to take some nice pics soon -- it's in better condition than I expected, and it sounds great too. I'm far more likely to sell the '72 at this point!phlemmy wrote:or just sell the shadow.

so.....where are the pics?

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
Rics (fat horns era included) fit perfectly in 70's Fender "amp-logo" cases. My '73 is kept in one of those.

If yer shadow is too fat you either have to:
Lose some weight or
Don't stand in the sun
emac.

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
My Shadow is exactly the same size as all my other Ricks (except for the '63 which is slightly wider than the others). Perhaps the vintage case is not a Rickenbacker case?

Send me the 72, and shave the shadow...

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
My two '87 4003S's and my '88 4003 fit in my brand new Musician's Friend bought RIC silver re-issue cases. A little snug at the widest part of the body; just snug enough that its easy to get in yet it won't move around.
I wonder why yours won't fit?
Side note: My '92 V63 won't fit in the new silver RI RIC cases because the headstock is about 1/2" too long.

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
I tried to take some pics but they're a little hard to see. I rested my '72 on top of my Shadow, and lined up the horns and one side as best I could. If you can see in the pics (they're both JG, sorry!), the Shadow's body is a little longer (see the bottom strap buttons?) and quite a bit wider in, for lack of a better term, the hips.
The Shadow doesn't fit in my J-bass case, either. The '72 fit in the reissue case just fine. I guess I have little choice but to refurb the Shadow's case at this point.

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
Thats actually quite a bit of difference. Sure the Shadow isn't a FAKER???

Re: My Shadow is too fat!
The shape of the 4000 series has not been as constant as you would think. There were lots of changes over the years, mostly in the lower wing.
Re: My Shadow is too fat!
Ha! So they got everything perfect except for the size of the body? Hey, the case it came in is form-fitted to the wider body, too.johnallg wrote:Thats actually quite a bit of difference. Sure the Shadow isn't a FAKER???
Why do I have Big Bottom stuck in my head?
