Any new Rick with factory crushed MOP would be an earth-shattering revelation for me and instantly become the focus of my eternal longing and lusting after until I finally get one. Let's hope it's a 4001V68 (or even earlier)!!

(I'd live more than happily ever after with a V68 - just change the pickguard and surround and possibly the treble p/u and make a V64-67!)

I've learned a lot from this thread. I think what makes this Forum special is the honest exchange of information - it helps those of us who are just musicians appreciate the special features of our deluxe Rickenbacker instruments. I had no idea how the inlays were cut and poured before tonight. I wouldn't have guessed that it was done the way it is done. Now, when I look at my 4003's, I have a better knowledge base.

Wow. I had no idea how deep the old FWMOP inlays were. Now I can fully understand the "weak neck" theory. Thanks for those pics Paul.

What's cool about this latest development is all the possibilities for deluxe model 400X reissues that "could" happen now that the inlays problem has been solved. They could do a reissue all the way back to the early 60's with a horse shoe pickup.

The new 360’s & 4003 basses from RIC are being produced with full inlays (from binding to binding). The material looks different from what RIC was producing from the mid 70's to the present. It almost looks like one piece of mother-of-pearl??? But never the less, they are back to making full inlays…

Good job RIC... Finally, it's about time!

Question for John Hall... Will these new inlays be added to the C series guitars?
