Yes, they're horrible aesthetically, and then you sit down to play it and it won't even stay on your leg. I know exactly what you mean. Also, when you're standing up it slides back towards you so that the front of the guitar is angling up, and that ain't right.

For moi, my 2nd guitar, a P.O.S. Kay archtop acoustic that came with a guitar lesson package mom bought me.
The best use that was to me, was as a trade in on my EB2C.

Both of the Les Pauls I've owned. I've tried twice, but I just can't stand the sound or feel of a Les Paul. They sound great when some people play them, but I just hate the way they feel and sound when I play them.

Omaha, Nebraska. 1980. My band from Creighton University Law School. It's at Sokol Hall, if anybody from Nebraska is reading. That's me on the right, with the gold Les Paul, mini-humbuckers. Good riddance to this guitar. Too heavy. Not a good rhythm guitar (which is what I played) and I didn't even like the color. Note my tiny Vox amp in the background. Sold them both upon graduation. I was broke.
This band still re-groups and plays once a year. Next gig, August 2 in Omaha. Nowadays I drag along two Rics.

Forgive me, but I've got a '57 reissue les paul that I love. The quality of a lot of Gibsons as everyone knows have been in the dumps, but I found a good one. It's my go to guitar, and it covers sonic territory I can't get to with anything else. Rickenbacker is by far my favorite brand, but I can't help but like this one les paul.

You're in good company, Sean. When I was at Geddy's last summer he gave me a rundown on how bad that bass is.

I should regret selling a Gold-top Gibson LP Signature Bass - the "inspiration" behind the Epi JC. They now sell for $3k+, and I dumped mine for $500 or so. It was a beautiful thing to look at, but it played and sounded like something that came free with a packet of cereal, so no real regrets, apart from inflicting that piece of garbage on someone else...

H'mmm ovations...
I've played and owned a few. Almost all seem to be dogs, but there are a few real gems out there...

You apparently have never played one of these:
Early 1970s Ovation Breadwinner
Early 1970s Ovation Breadwinner
The Breadwinner (yes, goofy name!) plays exceptionally well, and with its on-board active tone circuit, has a wide range of sound.

About the only guitar I really was glad to sell was the Strat clone that was part of my General Electric Guitarmate set (record player/amp with guitar). It had horrific action ... but the lead player in the old band I was in bought it and could he get some really good sounds out of it!

Goofy in more than just name, sir. I can't say I'm a huge fan of active electronics, too many sounds for me. I'm sure ovation has made some fine guitars, they're just totally not my style.

I know what you mean, Wes. I forgot about the two Stratocasters I had, a 1974 hardtail and a 1993 Yngwie Malmsteen Signature; I didn't like either one, but I'm sure someone else just loves 'em! :)

Yep, Teles are nice ... although I need to try to fine-tune the action on mine:
1986 MIJ Rosewood Telecaster

My first guitar, a Memphis Stratocaster copy. Warped neck, pickups not very good, and the thing was so heavy that after playing it for a long time my shoulder hurt.

Nice white/cream finish though.

Wes, I'm certainly not disrespecting Gibson quality. They make beautiful instruments, but they're just not for me. I've just never played a Les Paul that felt or sounded right to me when I played it.
