My Wal MK-II/5 for sale

Post by incubus2432 »

I've had this listed on other sites for a few and figured it wouldn't hurt to throw it on here as well. I've already had contact with a few Forumites (and others) that have some interest but nothing further yet. I'd consider full or partial Ric trades as well.

Up for sale is my '91 Wal Mk-II 5-er. All of the original electronics are intact and function properly. The action is low and buzz free. It plays easy and sounds as a Wal should. American walnut facings with a mahogany core. Strung with D'Addario Chromes.

It is in excellent overall condition but is a 17 year old instrument and has some very minor dings and light scratches. When I received it the finish left something to be desired.....worn away in many places and obviously light and near missing in others. Apparently the factory finish was applied sparingly on the body. I'm extremely picky and the worn look drove me bonkers so I took off the remaining finish with some steel wool and light sanding and applied a tung oil finish (to the body only....the neck is original finish). This may be blasphemy for some but the original finish, or what was left of it, wasn't worth saving and I felt that protecting the wood was more important than leaving the original "mojo". You can see much of the wear and tear on the rear in the electronics pic below.....that was taken right after I got it before the tung oil conversion. That's a pretty good example of the original finish condition and why I removed it. The other pics show it as it is today.

I'm asking for $6000 plus actual shipping. Original flight style case included. Paypal is preferred. I prefer a straight sale but feel free to fire off any trade/partial trade offers. Also let me know if you have any specific questions or photo requests.

BTW....if anyone cares for the reason I'm selling. The Wal is the best playing and sounding bass that I have owned but i bought it with the intent of it being my primary gigging bass and I'm band-less at the moment and don't see that changing anytime soon so I don't really need it for my home noodling needs.

Brian, as a fellow Wal owner, I must suggest that you think about this more before you let it go.

Seriously..... I'd hate to see you regret this later on....you know how hard they are to come by. All the best to you pal, I just don't want you to make a snap decision..(maybe it isn't... )

Thanks John....not a snap decision, just a practical one. I'm fine with keeping it if it doesn't sell......I'm still playing it most every day. :D I'm not crazy flexible on the price since I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't sell. Basically I just feel it is sort of a waste and too valuable to be used how I'm using it. Some changes may be coming up at work that will likely kill any chance of a band in the foreseeable future as well.

I know finding another would be difficult/nearly impossible but I'll deal with that if/when the time comes.

I'll give ya $5. +shipping... but not to BS $5995 shipping either. :P
I've wanted one of these for years, but they're too expensive.. and that doesn't look like it'll ever change. Damn my parents for bringing me into this world poor!

Well, I'll throw in the shipping for free for a $6K sale price.

My parents didn't exactly set me up financially either.....I've often told my Dad that I wish he had worked a little harder so that I wouldn't have to. :P

Very nice. I always like to see the material an instrument is made of and that's a beautiful piece of wood.

Best of luck with the sale Brian, but I kind of hope you still have it in June so I can play it. :)

I'd like for you guys to be able to check it out as well.....we'll see how it goes.

Actually I find it somewhat plain by Wal standards. It's nice but I believe if it doesn't sell it will be going to Dolan's for a refinish in black......

I'm still looking at the possibility, Brian. Would fit nicely into my stash:

It certainly would!

I've been thinking more about the possible trade scenarios that you mentioned as a possibility. Let me know what you're thinking as far as if it would be "even" or how much cash either way depending on model. Cash is good but I do love Rics!

No problem Mike.....you have a stout collection as is! There is someone else on here expressing interest as well so I wanted to give Forumites a final chance. No big deal.
