Amp is Fuzzy - where to start?

Post by brycycle »

my 'back-up' Acoustic 140 arrived today. unfortunately, i'm getting fuzz through all channels (not the cable).

any thoughts on where to begin trouble shooting? i already re-soldered the speaker input jacks.

thanks-

Since its through all channels, I'd suggest the problem must be in the output area somewhere, but since that is solid state, I'm lost on it aside from that. :)

Start by checking the power supply voltages, always a good place to start. I would also look for a bias resistor of a coupling cap that is bad. Since you have two amps, you can compare voltages at the same points between the two and see where the variation comes in and that will narrow it to the stage or section causing the overdriving of the signal.
