Baseball bat neck
This really seems like the dumbest analogy ever in guitar talk. It seems to describe very thick necks, but this would imply that guitarists don't know how to hold a baseball bat and hold it from the wrong end. If you hold a baseball bat in the right place it is quite thin, almost like a ukulele or a Vox bass, very comfortable. Anyways, it is a ridiculous comparison, the construction of a baseball bat is totally different from a guitar neck.

It's a good analogy. Ever noticed how the skinny part of the baseball bat differs from bat to bat? They are not all the same, which makes the comparison plausible.

By your logic we should just throw out all similes and metaphors because that isn't how it really is.
I'm sure no one could ever cry a river.
The moon never hits your eye like a big pizza pie.
I'm sure if you played butter, you'd notice that guitars don't play that way.
you can't make your guitar sound wooly or fuzzy, because you can't touch sound, and it can't make you itchy.

Whilst I don't care one way or the other about this term, think of it as referring to the part of the bat that one uses to bat the ball, not where one holds it. Besides, you don't hold a guitar's neck with two hands, do you?rickenmetal wrote:This really seems like the dumbest analogy ever in guitar talk. I see, kind of like bunting, although you don't want to touch the "strings" when bunting. I still don't like the analogy.

Yep, my '57 reissue has a baseball bat neck, it's great. Also, that video is ridiculous.tennis_nick wrote:IMO, Gibsons have perfect necks... but that's just me!TomPettyandHeartbreakersFan wrote:Don't most Gibsons have fat baseball bat necks?

I thought that video was great! I've always loved that song and to see John play it on a baseball bat Strat is such high camp. IMHO
