first year of new bridges?

Does anyone know this, and also know if the old ones will fit a 2006 bass? I know it was sometime in the last ten years, probably within the last five but not sure. I need a new one for my fretless Blueboy, thanks.

I thought the last bridge/tailpiece change occured in '73 (disregarding the v63/C64 RI tailpiece and 2000/4004 bridges), or am I just am ignorant doofus?

There are several members of my family who will agree with anyone who suggests with the latter!

I never noticed a change in size but I did notice the Ric 4 string bridge somewhere got a little more like the allparts part in that it got add springs on the screws ... Also I think the allparts saddles are nicer than the real Ric saddles in that they are chrome plated ...

There no question that the bridge/tailpieces shrank in size a tad sometime in the mid-'80s. Occasionally the footprint of a new bridge is not big enough to cover the routing on an older bass.

I did notice that the TP on my 4003BBR was beefier.
There was a recent thread that had photos of the underside of the
newer TPs and it looked like there was more metal(if you can call pot glop that...).

The saddles of the new ones don't fit the old ones they are taller, this happened sometime I think in the early part of this century. They do now have springs in them, this may have happened with the change. The reason I know this is that Paul Yahn tried to fit new saddles to an old bass, he said they were taller and the screws would not screw into them, he didn't know this until he tried to do it. Incidentally I'm talking about the bridge not the whole tailpiece, I think at least one of you may have them confused.

The new saddles don't fit the new bridges either, Bob. I have a 100% stock 2006 4003 with saddles that sit too high off the bridge and rock back and forth. And I've seen it on plenty of other recent 4003's. My 2003 C64S does not have this problem, FWIW.

I don't think the bridges have changed. The new saddles however, don't seem to have the same height from the screw hole or the same radius of the old saddles.

Yes, any of the 4001/4003 bridges from mid-1973 and on will fit your 2006 tail piece.

And I speak from experience.

Yeah Jeff, that's the problem with the D and especially the G saddle, another problem with mine is that not only are the saddles too high the holes where the end of the screw sets into are a little off center on the D and G so they can't even rock back and forth, they're tipped to one side.

You can drill the holes out so they are larger or remove some metal from the saddles with a dremmel tool ...

I fix one or two bridges like that a few years ago ...

Or you can watch Ebay for an earlier bridge complete with saddles. I've found a few of 'em NOS without the saddles filed.

I don't know who the supplier is or who keeps getting the part wrong, but its been going on for a few years now.
