Sloppy bass solo: 79 4001 through a 70's SVT
Sloppy bass solo: 79 4001 through a 70's SVT
Recorded with a Nikon digital camera from about 30 ft out, no mics, sound right off the stage, obviously no effects added to the sound. 1979 4001 with 2-3 year old flatwounds and bypassed cap through a 70's SVT set up. I've put this in a couple of other odd places here but figured I'd put it here. I didn't even know my wife was recording this.

A soloing bassist who doesn't lose the groove is a rare thing indeed! nice playing!

Nice job, Bob! The rick sound great! Sounds like you grew up listening to the Motown sound.

Thanks a lot you guys, actually Jamerson is one of my favorite players and I did grow up with his stuff. Jamerson and McCartney were probably my two main influences back then. I loved The Beatles of course and Jamerson's basslines drew me toward the Motown stuff. Jamerson always sounded like he was playing upright lines to me.

I'm doing good Andy, just working like a fool lately, and what's RIO Jeff?
Oh I didn't mean to imply that I can play Jamerson with any authenticity, I'm not worthy to change a string on his bass, just always loved his style that's all, he had an upright players style which he transferred to electric. Tim Bogart was like Jamerson on steroids.

Jeff, I just looked it up, I doubt I'd be able to make it although I would like to, Ohio is about 1000 miles from me here in MA. I will think about it though.

That would be great if you could.
