+1...While there is what sometimes seems like an endless list of things to admire about Paul's work, what always strikes me the most is his finish work, especially those that feature a burst or glo of some sort. Those are the guitars I've always liked the most but are also those about which I personally tend to be rather anal and critical. Paul's work in this area is beyond critique. What's involved I suspect is a lot of thought, patience, skill and years of experience. The end result is always stunning.heinpete wrote:Paul, you are master in smooth transition fireglo!!!

Paul knows what we ricknuts prefer in a FG finish and certainly aims to please!

jingle_jangle wrote:Well, Alisha posted a thread about receiving the above guitar, and I was out with a bad flu (despite flu shot) for over 4 weeks...so things moved back a bit. I have four more jumbo acoustic bodies ready for finishing, but meanwhile there are six or seven projects that needed minor finish touchups, parts, etc., which I'm attacking one by one.
This 4000S has been hanging around awhile, waiting for this 'n' that, but I finished it this week and it's now trucking its way back out to Tennessee to its excited owner. It's had a refinish, refret, and new TRC and guard in soft gold.
...now I have a matched pair of BB 700s (yep, the same ones I mentioned earlier) whose varnishes are hardening, and which will be shipped out next week. This weekend I've got a pair of LSs on the bench--one DOA, and one needing some minor tweaks.
Then, some other projects, which I will show one by one...and with each completion, Mr. Simer's projects move ever closer to the booth.

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Funny you should ask, Scotty...tomorrow I'm getting up early to go and rent the carpet cleaning machine so I can help get the house ready for Dalia's Big Birthday Bash on Thursday (she's 39--again...). There will be two pianists and three guitarists in attendance, so the instruments shuld get a nice dusting-off, too...scotty wrote:After reading pages of OOhhhs and AAAhhhsss and Oh Paul your the Greatest man since Jesus`Well maybe not Jesus` lets say Moses. Can I ask just one simple question. When you get in from a day out working does your Mrs say words to the effect of `Hey lard *** time you vacuumed the lounge`or `Hey big ric hows about doing the Dishes?`![]()

I did the dishes yesterday. Now it's her turn for the next 29 days.

Bit late here, but that FG 4000 is simply spectacular, and to my eyes, comparable to any vintage finish.

It makes me (jaded, cynical, sarcastic, curmudgeonly, etc.) very happy to read comments such as these. I'd put up a smiley array, but that would be trite and a bit insincere, I think.
The Tennessee owner is in Nashville. He was very pleased with the finished instrument!
