New to forum
Yo ladies and gents (mostly gents, I guess) - I am newly registered here and no doubt have bumped into some of you at TB or HCBF. I have had a few 4001s over the years and currently own a '71 fireglo. My first 4001 was a jetglo I bought new in '72 (LL444 if I recall correctly) but hard times forced me to sell it to a young lady in Ypsilanti, MI a couple years later. My current one is pretty much a session queen - I used it on a couple of tracks on the latest Bears release (Eureka). http://www.thebearsmusic.com/
I've always loved Ricks so it's only right that I sign up and visit here.

Welcome, Bob! I'm sure people would love to see pics of that '71 ... especially if it has that elusive 21st fret.
I own a '72 JG with an LL serial number, but I can't recall exactly what it is right now; I'll check tonight. I'm sure it's not 444 though.
Definitely checking out Bears, too ... I've heard of this Belew fellow. He can play a little.

Welcome Bob,
Post a few pix when you have the chance, as I'm sure there are many here who would like to see your 71.

I just checked and it does go up to that high E. I'll try to take some pics and post them. There's a pic of it on the Car Caught FireCD cover - (too big to post)

Pretty appropriate for this place, eh?

My LL is 1584.
That '71 is a sweet looking bass, even in black and white.

Welcome Bob!
I've been a huge Bears fan since the 80's and have dabbled in a bit of Psychodots over the years. "Eureka" has been on heavy rotation in my office at work for months now. I've always enjoyed your playing and your tone is outstanding! Which tracks did you use the Rickenbacker on when recording Eureka?

Welcome to the forum Bob, its the best forum out there !.... any forum IMO. All you get is good sense and great advice from people that really know their stuff !
Couldnt help notice The Bears have Adrian Belew on guitar.... hes some player with great pedigree. That means you have a lot in comon with Tony Levin I reckon ! Levin is a great but would be even greater if he picked a Ric up !

Thanks for listening! The tracks I used it on were Normal and Keep Your Own Counsel.86kubicki wrote:Welcome Bob!![]()

From your photo, I'd say that is a 21-fretter. Congrats, you're one of the few who have found (accidentally or purposely) the elusive 21-fret bass.
Music sounds great and welcome! I can't say that I've been a Bears fan ('cause I root for da Packers
), but I'll have to listen some more!

Re: New to forum
Bob - is that just the 4001 and SVT on Normal? (BTW I love the line "Normal, like a setting on a washing machine..."). I didn't realize that you used the Rickenbacker on Eureka, but now that I listen to those tracks, it's fairly obvious. Did you (or Adrian or Rob) use any Ricks on "Car Caught Fire" or were they just there for cover eye candy?bnyswonger wrote: Thanks for listening! Steve - those tracks were both just taken direct through some nice tube pre. I'm sure Rob used his rick on some of CCF, but I can't say which tracks for sure - he uses it a lot in the studio. I don't remember Adrian playing that black one on anything.
Paul - Is the 21 fretter more valuable? I've thought about selling it due to debt problems but would really, really hate to.

Re: New to forum
Its a bit of an un-written policy, and good practice not to discuss price unless we're in one of the secure topics. "Appraisals" and "For Sale" come to mind. you have to be logged in to view these. I really dont think you would want to sell the 21 fretter. Its a very nice piece to have.
Welcome to the forum by the way!

Welcome to the forum, Bob. I like your work.
I think you should keep your Rick. But if you have to sell it, let me be the first to say...
MINE!!
(I'd be interested.)

Re: New to forum
The short answer is: yes. You'd be surprised what people will pay for that one tiny extra fret. They were only made that way for a brief time, so they're hard to come by.bnyswonger wrote:Paul - Is the 21 fretter more valuable?
