Re: Are these inlays new?
You play that far up the neck on a 12???
Re: Are these inlays new?
I have!
Re: Are these inlays new?
Sometimes...sure
Re: Are these inlays new?
Really? I've never actually measured, just gave it the "fingers test," so the 21 fret models certainly felt easier to play. Does the neck go further into the body on the 24 models? (to allow for more frets)jingle_jangle wrote:The 24 just has three more of these little pieces of wire tacked onto the body end of a longer neck.
Cheers,

ps...yep, I've actually gone that high on a 12 neck before..sometimes you just gotta find that **note** haha

That's the point...the extra frets protruding into the body change the look of the guitars.collin wrote:Really? Re: Are these inlays new?
The only thing I play on my six strings that I don't on my 12 string are bends greater than a half step. Play the 24th fret on a a twelve string? If it's there, why not?

Re: Are these inlays new?
My comments were a josh.
There is also an apparently significant difference between tones of the two neck lengths; Tony Carey insists that 24 fretters worked best with hi-gains and 21s sounded best with toasters because of the location of the neck pickup on the scale. I haven't done an A/B test to verify this.
On a 21-fretter, the neck pickup is positioned where the 24th fret would be.

OK, now this discussion is beginning to make sense. I was beginning to think it was all a circular, pointless, and highly subjective topic. Aesthetically, I could not possibly care less whether a guitar had 21 or 24 frets. Turn out the lights, or play with your eyes closed, or for an audience with significant visual disablilties, and it may become moot.

Nah, just play the CCs above the 12th fret!jingle_jangle wrote:You mean I have to learn stuff in addition to cowboy chords?jps wrote:I have!

OK, kids, back to the topic.
The FWs can be found on basses, too.
Here's a 4003 JG with the FWs, at Wildwood, could be gone soon:

Is that cool or what?
Judging from the ad text, it's just another RIC bass. No mention of the FWs.

It's a standard feature now. Ric employees have confirmed itlibratune wrote: Judging from the ad text, it's just another RIC bass. No mention of the FWs.
Re: Are these inlays new?
yep, which is why you can get nice natural harmonics with the neck pickup under the 24th fret area.jingle_jangle wrote:

I hope that Rickenbacker will be wise enough (and considerate enough of their customers) to let us in on what is the policy now concerning the new inlays. I think the new inlays look fantastic and would be happy to buy any 360 with this feature. But I won't budge until I know.

Re: Are these inlays new?
As far as I can gather, the new inlays are a permanent fixture on the standard (non-reissue) line. Ric has not made an official announcement because there are always people on the forums who flip out when they don't get such-and-such feature.
