How do you handle out of town CL transactions?

Post by ajish4 »

I know this sounds stupid,

But I'm looking at something that is listed in the FLINT MICHIGAN Craigslist.

NO, it isn't a RIC! :D

Being I'm in Florida, how do you more experienced folks handle communicating and paying/shipping out of town CL transactions?

We're not talking a lot of $$$$, but even if this one doesn't go through, for future reference....

Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised that no one has responded yet.

What I have done in the past is the following:

First, in my e-mail response to the seller, I provide my phone numbers as well as ask the seller to provide his/her number(s) (I usually indicate in my initial inquiry that I am not local). Once on the phone, the remaining details, form of payment - PayPal, money order, cashier's check, mailing and shipping addresses, etc. are hammered out.

When I send the payment, I e-mail or call the seller to let him/her know it's on its way, with a request that he/she let me know when he/she receives it. I also check on when the seller expects to ship it, and to please let me know when it is on its way (A tracking number is a plus, of course, for both of us).

Once the item is received and the package and contents are inspected for shipping damage, I call or e-mail the seller to thank him/her.

The only major variation on this is when a fellow Forumite local to the seller acts as an intermediary (when the seller doesn't want to ship it).

I hope that helps!

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your response, much appreciated.

I'm in negations right now, I REALLY appreciate the help.

It is a cheapie, not a RIC, but I've been curious about one of these for a while.

I'll post further details and pictures if it all works out.

But either way, I'll let you know....I'll PM you a link to what I'm looking at.

Thanks again!

I've only had one CL experience, that was my S/8 that I got recently. I was a bit concerned about it since I never had done a X-action from CL before. Fortunately it all went well. Hope it all works well for you, Tony. Send me the link also, I'm curious to see what you're looking at.

This is really good timing, as I just saw something I'm interested in - in another state of course.

Right now, the seller doesn't want to ship and keep it local. I'm hoping I get a shot before it goes on ebay.
