I would have to say for me Keith Moon 1, Carl Palmer 2 and Neil Peart 3.

Any of you guys seen Steve Smith lately...?

He is infinitely better than anything he ever played on a Journey record. The man can throw it down.

Come to think of it, Dana Carvey isn't too shabby either!

I notice that Neil Peart's name is starting to be mentioned a lot. He is an incredible drummer and what is noteworthy is that he is listed in many drummer polls very near the top if not at the top. It makes me proud that a Canadian is so highly regarded.

I like Stewart Copeland. Very creative.

And he put up with Sting for all those years. :P

Roy: The link still works for me in Canada. Perhaps the wind is not blowing in your direction. :)

Put Bill Bruford and Phil Collins together on stage and this is what happens.

Jason Bonham should perhaps also get a mention on this thread.

He's played with:

Led Zeppelin
The Jason Bonham Band
Foreigner
UFO
Motherland
Gram Vogel
Airrace
Virginia Wolf
Jimmy Page
Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul

Bruford, Bruford, Bruford!

I admire all the nominees, but Bill is the man!

Ginger Baker, number one, look at the Cream Reunion dvd. What as he been doing all these years ? Moon # two, he had power, style, and he enjoyed himself on stage [and off]. Carmine Appice, this guy is the journeyman drummer's drummer. 8)

I saw the two of them play together on two consecutive evenings! Great combo. :D

Phil is no slouch on the drums. I have always liked him as a drummer, a singer and as a person. Genesis: Love 'em. Enough said. Bill Bruford was in my original list. Again enough said.

Thanks for the link Pete. That was incredible.

So many great ones and so little time....not rock but I think Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra and others) deserves mention.
No matter where you go, no matter what you do, there you are.

I saw Cobham in '72 with the original MO. :D They opened for Zappa and the MOI with George Duke and Jean Luc Ponty on board!
