The last time we heard Geddy's Rickenbacker 4001 on any Rush release was 26 years ago on the Signals album.

We finally get to hear it again on "A Passage to Bangkok".

That ALONE is worth it for me.

April 15th can't get here soon enough.

26 years?!?!?! Man do I feel like a geezer. I can remember seeing Rush in 79 like it was yesterday. Natural Science and Witch Hunt are two others I want to hear.

Hey, you're not alone there! I was 14 1/2 yrs. old when I first saw Rush live. 3/1/81 Chicago. I'll be almost 42 this time around. Time gets away quickly dosen't it? That first Chicago show for me on the Moving Pictures tour still seems like it was yesterday, but to think I was only in my first year of High School then and here I am STILL listening to Rush just like I was then AND still seeing them live is something that I thought would never be happening.

Rush music is among the most enduring I've experienced. I'll bet I've heard "The Spirit of Radio" literally thousands of times, and it still sounds great whenever I hear it.

I'm with Steve on "Entre Nous" and "Circumstances" - two favorites for years and years....

Here's our tribute band. The sound of rick isn't as good as the original, but the live situation wouldn't allow us to make the bass sound any better than this

Got this yesterday.
The Ricky makes an appearance on 'A Passage To Bangkok'. Not that up front, but radically different tonewise.
IMO, not so much booming bass end.
The Fender Jazz sounds OK on some songs, absolutely atrocious on others. All in all not a bad album, but not a great one. Rush still have plenty of energy, but the older songs suffer slightly.... But time moves on. What's great is that they are putting new songs out and still playing live.
Now if only Geddy would try the Rick again, full time, cos it really does sound so much more focused...... Dreams dreams LOL!!!

well, Geddy definitely hasn't abandoned his Rics:

when my bandmate was on set for the "Far Cry" video (he was the editor, and ended-up playing the young Geddy in the shades, sitting at the desk) - he said Geddy brought in a bunch of his basses, Rics included...

i tried to get the details out of him, definitely Rics present, possibly his 4002...

the reason i say that, is that he brought-up this story after seeing my MG 4002 and noted, "i think Geddy has one of these".

The sound of the album is probably an improvement on the past couple of live offerings. I'm astounded at how many mistakes there are on it, although I'm pleased that they left them on there, rather than cheating. My biggest complaint is that everything seems very s l o w . I don't remember things being so slow at the shows, but I suppose that they must have been.

Yeah, a lot of stuff is really slow now. Digital Man is REALLY slow. YYZ slower. Limelight slower. Even the new songs are slow.

Which mistakes do you mean? Ged's yawn in Mission?

They're getting older! I've noticed this for a while with Yes also.

Hehe, Mission has quite a few actually and the worst ones aren't Geddy.

I agree John, Yes have also slowed things down a bit - they don't seem to be right on the edge anymore, which I miss actually. Still great though.

Jon, I kinda like the pace nowadays with Yes. I'm getting too old for frenetic.
