Most of the tunes I've posted previously have been from completed albums, but this one I just finished mixing tonight. This is the tune I was recording when my guitar strap gave out and my '68 4001 went crashing to the floor. Woops. Hard evidence that Ricks take a licking and keep on rocking. (Man! I should get PAID to write copy like that!)
Enyhu - the song:
Sostenuto
Featuring the '68 4001 on the main bassline, and the '79 4001V63 on the distorted parts.
If the player acts a little sticky, click the "back" button a couple of times.

Re: Sostenuto
Mark,
good tune... I like the dynamics and love the tone of the bass.... and of course the playing of the bass. What is your setup with the bass? Is this both pickups, direct or mic'ed, compressed....etc. Nice coffee waker upper.

Thanks Tom -
For the '68 4001, I had both pickups on, and recorded with a combination of micing and running direct. I had one mic on my 4x12 Hiwatt powered by an SWR head, and another mic on a Vox 2x15 powered by an AC100 head. No compression was used on either of the mic'd channels, but I did limit the direct signal slightly to control the loud peaks whenever I smacked the bass hard. All channels were submixed onto one independent track, and no additional compression was used during the mix. Also, no coffee was used in the making of this song.

Re: Sostenuto
For the distorted parts, I used my 1979 4001V63 through the SWR + 4x12 set-up, mic'd and direct from the preamp so both signals were distorted.

There's also the tremolo bass chord track that I used the '79 4001SLH on. I think this was only mic'd through the 4x12, no direct signal.
