Man vs. Monster

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

I got a chuckle out of this article, and as it involved both a curmudgeon and a matter of design, I thought this would be a suitable place to share it:

A letter from a lawyer that was actually fun to wade through! This, apparently, is still in process. Should be interesting to follow...

Much fun and I wish him a winning hand. DId you follow the link to Noel Lee's response in general as to Monster being a corporate bully?

I like Monster's products, as I do Randal Smith's, but Monster is kind of the Mesa Boogie of cable for the use of patents. I will avoid unkind elaboration.

I never thought much about Monster, other than knowing they made a decent product for a high price...and that they are ubiquitous at Guitar Centers, Bets Buys, you name it...

But something like this is all it takes for me to turn my back on a brand. My next cable just might be a Tartan.

Great read! Monster has a lot to lose if even one of their patents is ruled to be invalid. Prior art is a b***h!

Thanks, guys! I was just about to go online and find a place to order a couple of replacement cables (had one bite the dust and need an extra short cable). I saw Monster cables for sale and thought I'd do a 'search' on this Forum to see what others' experience has been.... After reading this, I now know to avoid Monster.

Their cables are fine. But...

There are lots of excellent cables out there now. There have been a few threads about favorite or best cables as well. Currently I'm pretty happy with Mogami. Others have voted for Planet Waves. I just might try that Tartan...
