What amp do you use with your Rics?
I'm looking to purchase a new amp soon and I'm looking for some advice. I've got a 330 w/hi gains, a 660/12, a 325c58 and a Gretsch 6119-1962HT, and I'm looking for a good match in a moderately priced tube combo amp. I've been checking out several different Fenders including the '59 Bassman, '65 Twin Reverb, '65 Deluxe Reverb, Supersonic combo, and Vibrolux, and some Vox AC's also. I've heard a lot of horror stories about Vox AC's, so I'm kinda leaning more towards the Fenders. What do you guys use that suits your Rickenbacker guitars well?

Orange Rocker 30, it's simple and sounds good.

I'm very blessed when it comes to the gear I have...Most all of my amps are of the vintage variety....Vox JMI ac15,ac30 and ac50.....Fender bassman (w 2 x 15 cab), Vibrolux reverb, Rickenbacker b16a 4 x 10 combo and Rivera SM60 head through a 4 x 12 Celestion cab.
The Rivera is a very versatile amp and I use it often. My Ricks sound great through all of the Vox amps, and sound good through the Fender rigs too (especially the Vibrolux reverb).
As a sidebar, I also have a Mojave Coyote head that I play through a pair of Celestion blues-it's a 12 watt amp and can be used at bedroom levels without losing sound quality-they're built like a tank too-great amp! Vic Mason at Plexi Palace is a master vintage amp restorer and engineered the Mojave line based on vintage specs he has gleaned over the years and years of restorations he has done.
Good luck in your search!

I switched from a '73 Fender Pro Reverb to a black Zinky 50w Blue Velvet Head through an Avatar 212 cab that I put a Weber Alnico 30w Blue Dog and Silver Bell in. I'll never go back. Sounds amazing with a Ric.

I have a late '60s or early '70s Kustom tuck'n'roll series 200 amp and speaker cabinet that I will have rehabbed and I'm curious to hear what a Ric 12 string will sound like through that.

No horror stories here with my AC-30 CC. Just change the tubes.
Played a Mesa Maverick 2x12 for a while, that was a great sounding amp. I think they're tough to find though.
I'll also throw in a reccomendation for Orange. Love the Rocker amps.

I tend to favor the Vox side of things in general. I think one of the AC15 heritage jobbies would be fantastic. About the Vox amps in general, I believe that they aren't anywhere near as bad as their rap.
All of my Fender amps have been a little noisy, but I have two friends who have Blues Juniors and they rave about them (theirs aren't noisy.) A friend (feind?) bought one a few days ago and stayed up half the night going nuts with it.
THD is coming out with a combo version of their amps and a new EL84 amp (combo?). I'm crazy about my Flexi- I can change tubes like a madman and make it turn into whatever I want it to (but it's a head.)
I have a DC30 clone (still not in a cabinet) that sounds fantastic. The EF86 channel in that (especially if you like distortion) is really one of the 8 wonders of the guitar world. It has a 12ax7 preamp section that is kind of like a regular Vox channel that has grown on me- it works great for cleans.

Check out a Reverend Hellhound or Kingsnake if you can. These amps kick some serious butt.
Re: What amp do you use with your Rics?
Had to replace the tubes initially on the Vox AC-15 due to noise and have been happy with it ever since.

What kind of tubes are you guys putting into your Vox amps?
Re: What amp do you use with your Rics?
I'm running mine through an AC30, no problems at all, have a second AC30 on its way as well
mmmmm soon I can use my Ric-O-Sound box properly
Re: What amp do you use with your Rics?
'65 Twin Reverb RI (with 360/12WB, 325v63) ...super clean, lotsa headroom ...great for Beatles/Byrds (nails the Byrd sound with a JangleBox)
...don't shoot me but, i personally prefer the Twin over an AC30

I use either a '59 Fender Bassman RI w/ '63 Reverb RI or a Vox AC-30 Handwired edition. Very different beasts, but both are great.

Re: What amp do you use with your Rics?
Anyone tried a Fender Supersonic? A friend of mine has one and he loves it, but he doesn't have any Rics. I'm going to take a guitar over and try it out this weekend. I'm leaning towards Fender, but that Zinky looks pretty sweet too.
