320/350 Models--any to add?

Post by wj350 »

Trying to figure out how many derivations of the the 320 (well even the 315) and 350 models Ric has produced, and what years (most of mine are WAGs here).... here are the models I show so far....any missing? Corrections? Appreciate any insights....

315 (??)
325 (1958-59?)
325 (1964-?)
325/12 (1965-?)
Rose Morris 1996 (1965-66?)
320 (??)
320B (??)
320/12 (??)
325v59 (??)
325v63 (??)
325/12v63 (??)
350 (1990s, pre-v63)
350SH (??)
350v63 (??)
350/12v63 (??-2007)
325JL (??)
325/12JL (??)
355JL (??)
355/12JL (??)
325c58 (??-Present)
325c64 (??-Present)
1996Vin (2006-07?)

Missing any? Thanks, Bill

Forgot the 310. The C Series was announced in 2001, I *think* the c58 went into production in 2002 but I can't remember the exact year for the c64.

Bill-

That's correct. 2 pickup, plain tail. Early models had trapezes, they may have been made in very small numbers all the way up until the hi-gain 320s retired.

Like the SPC 360/12s...Rickenbacker kept a handful of L.E.'s around in case they needed to replace them under warranty. When the warranties ran out, they were sold as 'SPC'...same appointments, without the L.E. status. That's gotta be one awesome guitar!

I don't think there is a 325/12JL. I believe all the 12's were 355's.

Brett, think you're correct, thanks--just found the old Ric press release.
From the press release:
325JL - 953
325JL LH - 21
355JL - 660
355JL LH - 8
355JL VB - 23
355/12JL - 329
355/12JL LH - 5

Another stupid question--355L VB--what's the VB? Vibrato?

According to The Rickenbacker Book by Bacon and Day:

310 - 1958-1971 and 1981-1984
315 - 1958-1975
320 - 1958-1992
320B - 1983-1984
325 - 1958-1975 and 1985-1992
325B - 1983-1984 (Bacon and Day lists this, but were they ever made?)
325JL - 1989-1993
325V59 - 1984-(??) (I have a 1997 model)
325V63 - 1984-(??)
325/12 - 1985-1986
350 Liverpool - 1984-(??)
350SH - 1988-1990
350V63 - 1994-present
355JL - 1989-1993
355 Liverpool - 1983-(??)
355JL - 1989-1993
355JLVB - 1989-1993
355/12JL - 1989-1993

Great stuff guys, keep it coming!! I'm compiling all this stuff in a spreadsheet just for my own curiosity, but if anyone here is interested, PM me with your email address and I'll send you a copy of what I've collected to date.

As an update to the Bacon & Day timelines, i'd say the "Liverpool" bit the dust around 1997, and the v59 and v63 around 2000.

Bill: You might wish to keep the Rose Morris 1996 or other reissue 1996 models separately.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
