Who inspired YOU to get into Rics?

Post by JakeK »

This little topic of mine isn't exactly like the "Top five responsible for Rickenbacker sales/popularity" thread. My thread is a little different.

Which artists inspired you to have a liking for Rics?

I have five people in mind, guitar wise:

1. Tom Petty
2. George Harrison
3. John Lennon
4. Roger McGuinn
5. Pete Townshend

1. Paul Weller
2. Bruce Foxton
3. Mitch Easter in the "Every word Means No" video.

Once I had my 4001 and then my WB, I started noticing all of the other players who used Ricks. sort of like when one buys a particular make and model of car then starts noticing how many other cars of the same make and model are on the road. :D

Geddy Lee.

I love the sound of other artists using Rickenbackers as well (Peter Buck, Paul McCartney, etc.), but Geddy Lee was the one who inspired me to buy my first jetglo 4003 that started my love of Rickenbackers....

Generally speaking I'd also have to agree with Sheena's answer. Specifically, however these are the guitarists:

Kenny Howes (there is a YouTube video clip of the SoCal Confluence where he and some others are doing an unrehearsed version of "Nowhere Man" that is really good. Made me wish I could have been there.)

And then there are the Usual Suspects:
Roger McGuinn
George Harrison

And some others
Tony Poole (Starry Eyed & Laughing)
Gary Louris (I think it is he who played the Rick 330 12 string on "The Jayhawks Rainy Day Music.")
