I must add that although I listed several of the Usual Suspects, it was more the sound that the Rickenbacker imparted to their music, than the names of the musicians listed. No matter what or where I was playing, or with whom, I've either conciously, or unconciously tried to make the music I play sound different than the person or recording I learned it from; to put my own stamp upon the music.

And I realized that other electrics just wouldn't do it. So now that I've decided to plug in, it has to be Rickenbacker. Well, we'll see how well I succeed in borrowing from yet at the same time distancing myself from the Rickenbacker Packers who have inspired me.

John Lennon, George Harrison, Gerry Marsden and Pete Townshend in that order. Honourable mention goes to Frank Smith of Les Fleur de Lys. We shared the same manager for a time and I got to know Frank quite well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Fleur_de_Lys

All the rest were comparative late comers to the party including Paul.

Pete Townshend
Paul Weller
Peter Buck

These were the artists I listened to most during my formative guitar-playing years. Other cool Rickenbacker-playing artists I was exposed to later just reinforced my impression that Rickenbacker was the guitar for me.

For the bass, it was Paul and Cliff.

For the 12-string, it was George and Roger.

For the 6-string, it was nobody - just the fact that they looked and sounded unique, and I really liked the way they played.

Couldn't have said it better. Except for me it was Squire, Rutherford, CF Turner....

The Beatles, Tom Petty and the Byrds introduced me to "the sound", which caught my ear when I was young. But once I started playing, it was players/artists like Peter Buck and Mitch Easter that prompted me to actually purchase my first Rickenbacker. The video "Waters Part" by Let's Active was probably the final nail in the coffin for me. Bands like the Smiths and Bangles also added to my determination to get one.

Really not any particular artist inspired me to get into Rics. Back in 1994, my brother-in-law looking for a 360/12 FG and I hit several of the LA area shops to see if I could help him find one. Remember back then, there were not very many internet dealers (if any at all). I became a fan because of Ric's (a) quality and (b) sound. :D

Paul McCartney. The Hello Goodbye promo. I saw it and said "What an ugly bass." Later on when I wanted to start playing it was the first thing I asked for and my dad told me "They went out of business." Hah!

Then Roger Waters who played his 1999 back when he actually played interesting stuff. He got lazy when he got the P bass.

Geddy Lee. After hearing him I had to get one and I had just come into some money and that's what I bought. Sadly, I had learned just about every Rush tune that featured the 4001 BEFORE I got the 4001. So I had that sound while learning the late 80's and 90's stuff.
