According to the serial #, it's a '73.

It's mis-listed, but hey... that might keep the price from getting out of hand!
My first bass was a Rickenbacker...
My best bass is a Rickenbacker...
My last bass may very well be a Rickenbacker

I just bumped it up a bit so you can now see the reserve. Only $430. Not a bad deal so far.

The reserve was $250...I bid on it late last night and was pretty surprised when my $300 bid topped the reserve so I made the guy an end it now offer...unfortunately (for me) he didn't accept my offer! Well, I didn't really want a set neck anyway (yea right!! keep telling yourself that david!)

I contacted the seller about the proper designation and age of this bass. He had been mislead by a local used-musical instrument shop. He's in the next town over from where I work. He mentioned he would try to amend the description. Seems like a nice fellow, and he might even come hear my band play Saturday night!

I wonder why he's selling it? You wouldn't know anything about that would you dedgoat? I wonder where he got that transitional high gain?

Dedgoat, That transitional high gain is not original to the bass is it? And if I had a few extra bucks I'd consider it, I don't know if I'd want to get into refinishing though.

Hmmmm... I have a decision to make.Dedgoat's piece comes up first, and I definately have interest. Now this that's ready to go. Only problem is I think that fireglow is going to go for nice bucks. That guy is probably excited now that everyone is e-mailing him about how special the piece is.

If I buy the "raw" 4000, someone here better direct me to a horseshoe.

Bob,
The pickup is original as far as I know, it was what came with the bass. It was modified around 1975 and I don't think anybody has messed with it since.

Dedgoat, It's gone! ****! That's what I get for being lazy. I was going to bid on it tomorrow. Man, I was getting pretty excited about the potential on that 4000. I was going to put the original route back in the tail. I have a very nice original tail piece and bridge in the parts pile. It will look stellar in all black. I was also thinking about copper with black guard. Don't have another one out there do ya?
