370/12 MAHOGANY BURST

Post by jingle_jangle »

This project was completed for John Pollard just this past week. Originally, John wanted me to do an Amber tint on his MB 370/12. After tinting, I noticed air inclusions in the areas around the neck joint and tailpiece anchor. (Now I inspect these areas with a jeweler's loupe to locate stress cracks; these preclude any tinting and save a lot of work! But this was mid-last-year.)

I filled John in on what happened, and he asked me to strip it and do a mahogany burst instead, with gold guards and TRC and checkerboard binding on the back. Here's the result, which will go back to John later this week:

This paintwork was also ambered, just slightly. Makes it look like an oldie with the CB binding, though it's a 2004...

Wow. That is one seriously luxurious finish. I love the hints of burgundy and the red dot markers. You know, I try not to use too many exclamation points when I write so that I can save them for occasions like these: Thank you, Paul!!!

Great. A vintage finish! It is a shame though the tinting didn't work out as was the plan, BUT this finish certainly does the trick!

Paul, maybe the finish on that 370 should be named "Bing Cherry Glo". If I saw that guitar in person, I might be tempted to, dare I say it, bite it.
