Making Impressions

Post by winston »

Making impressions

No, I'm not talking about the type of impression you try to make on the cute guy or gal at the end of the bar. I'm talking about marketing impressions. An impression occurs when someone notices your band's name or song. A music industry rule of thumb states that it takes seven impressions on average to convince someone to buy an album or single. An impression can be anything from radio play to advertising to being handed a sticker at a club.

When people buy music and report the impressions that led them to purchase it, those impressions are almost never entirely gathered from one source: someone heard it on the radio, saw a poster on a telephone pole, read the ad for the show in the weekly, etc.

This supports the idea that you are better off spreading your marketing budget over a variety of targeted, related efforts, rather than spending it all in one place.

Nice play on words and a nice version, but I prefer Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck's version. The guitar parts are soooooo tasty................... 8)

Actually a pearl of wisdon from Music 123 ...............if you can believe it. I have to believe that they must have read those facts somewhere else and republished or perhaps paraphrased them for general consumption. All in all I found the short article to be precisely aligned with both my business management and musical career experience. That's why I thought I should share their thoughts.
