None more black - RAS
I couldn't resist. On the way back from a client, I passed Sam Ash. Er, almost passed. Hanging on the wall within was a '02 4003 JG BB. Unbelievable price. They obviously hadn't been paying attention to current (or even past) Ric prices. I couldn't resist. She's mine! About as close to mint as possible. Even got the case candy. Pix tomorrow!

It's nice when just sort of happen across a find. It's more fulfilling than eBay.

Yeah, I'd love to see this one. My Jap model was an 02 as well but it had a fat neck.

Scott's story about passing by a music store and seeing and Rick is much better than mine.
I was just at a Guitard Center on my way home from work, looking for a guitar box. While I was there, I spotted a 'Burgundy 74 4001. It looked okay from a distance, through the vintage room window. I went in the room, it looked a bit rough, then I inspected it. It was pretty beat up and the fingerboard was separating from the neck. It actually did play better than I had expected. The worst part is that someone had drilled a hole in the back of the neck near the headstock.
I was wondering if this was the same 4001 that I had seen quite a while back that might have once belonged to a forum member. The asking price was absurd. For not much more, I could get one on ebay for not much in decent condition. If the price was reasonable I may have bought it and restored it.
...and to top it off, good ol' Guitard Center didn't have any guitar boxes. They rarely have anything I'm looking for.

Hmm, there's about a .01% chance I could go into a store around here and see a Rick hanging on the wall.
A friend of mine that specializes in vintage equipment has a store in town and has only had 2 Rick basses pass through in the past 15-20 years!

+ 1 here Kev. I've seen two - a way overpriced at the time (about half again what it should have been) 70's MG that was bought by a drunk's girlfriend and that weekend the neck was snapped off when he tried a backflip while playing. Then the manager at the GC had his Bartolini pupped late 80's red 4003S with BT which didn't appeal. I could have got that at a very decent price as it was there quite a while and have it refinned - both basses were before my association here and all the knowledge I've gained.teeder wrote:Hmm, there's about a .01% chance I could go into a store around here and see a Rick hanging on the wall.

I keep looking and watching the paper....

Just one of those serendipitous moments… meant to be – congrats Scott.
Re: None more black - RAS
I've lived in Florida for 6 years now, NEVER seen one in a store.
Re: None more black - RAS
Our local vintage dealer seems to think Rics should sell for $1500 . Doesn't matter which model or year .
He might see one or two a year , they don't tend to stay in the store for long .
